Composer, conductor, musicologist and professor, Leonard Dumitriu is a musician passionate about vocals; he’s particularly devoted to the opera – field in which he has performed as a conductor for over 30 years, but equally to the lied, to which he dedicated cycles for all voices, and the choir, for which he wrote inspired pages. As a musicologist, Leonard Dumitriu wrote numerous articles published in international magazines. He is the author of several musicology research books published in Romania, among which we mention Unbridled creative freedom. Dmitri Shostakovich and the opera Lady Macbeth from the Mtsensk district, a book that received the UCMR Award in 2020. Prof. dr. habil. Leonard Dumitriu has a tenure in Orchestration. Since 2013, he has been a PhD supervisor at the Doctoral School of Music, whose director he was from 2020 to 2021.
His academic interest is modern and contemporary work, especially Dmitri Shostakovich and Leoš Janáček.
